Kitchen and pantry floor

One layer of the old floor was ripped out.  It took two guys two days to complete the project (22 man-hours to finish.). 

First they ripped up the old floors.

Then they applied a leveling compound which had to dry for an hour or two. 

While it was drying the one guy started cutting trim. Once dry they cut the floor in for the main kitchen area. That was day one. Day two they applied leveling compound behind the fridge, then cut out the areas for the pantry and under the fridge. I think they only glued it at the doorways for about 8 inchs into the room. Then trimmed it all in quarter round.

LED completion and grass growth (so far)

We planted grass seed about a month ago, this is the grass growth so far. 

Today we had Lowes install a sliding glass door where the old door was. We decided it was time since both sides of the door glass were getting foggy.

New door, we have to still caulk and paint the trim... 

Lowes doesn't do finish work, but we knew that. It was a very professional job, the guys were good contractors. 2 guys were here about 5 hours to get the job done.

We can see outside now!!!

Also today Jim and I also installed the rest of the patio LEDs!

Next up... New linoleum for the kitchen. No more grey (white) floor! 

Laundry Complete!

After a full weekend working on the laundry area, it is finally complete (almost).  This is our 99th post on this blog, can you believe it?

I got the trim installed, everything pained, the doors on, the drying racks build all of the hardware installed!

We still need to put the banding on the bare end of the plywood, but I didn't want to try to iron that on myself.

The design was built around making it as easy as possible to remove the washer and dryer if necessary, as well as access the connections (water lines, cords, etc.).

The top piece that houses the drawers and drying racks is about 5" shorter than the shelf just above the washer and dryer so that it can easily be pulled out if necessary.  It is only screwed down to the plywood shelf below, and the 1x4 trim on the sides is installed with pocket holes from inside the cabinets so they can be pulled off.

Likewise, the baseboard trim is in two pieces so that only the piece of trim that is in front of the washer and dryer would need to be pulled off to get the washer / dryer out of their cubby.

It took alot longer to design and build this way, but in the event that anything ever happens that we need to get in there, it will be worthwhile.

I'm happy with the way it turned out, but the painting is still the worst part!

Laundy Storage

We got our new washer and dryer for the addition and finally decided on a storage design which contains two drawers and four drying racks.

Had an early dismissal from work today which gave me some time to work on the storage area.

Closet - Mostly Finished

The closet is mostly finished now.  The hardware is on the drawers but we still need to add the shoe rack. There are also a few drawers that are a little sticky now that the fronts are on and painted.

Today the closet was sanded, primed, and painted with one coat of finish paint.

Closet Consumption

Wow, this closet has really consumed my life.  Finally started trimming it out.  Without the shoe rack installed it is difficult to finish the molding.  We still need a couple of pieces of molding and hardware for all the drawers! I got the base molding and crown molding today.

Lucky for me Sandra already detailed out how to cut crown molding for the different corners, which made it possible!
