Patio Prep

Today, they started preparing the patio to be poured.  They installed sonotubes for the footings, removed siding, replaced the rotten rim joist, installed flashing and started backfilling.

Whew! Mechanicals Roughed

It has been a while since posting.  Luckily it was due to a lack of time, rather than a lack of progress!

I actually had to go back and look at old photos to remember what it used to look like.  Friday was a busy day.  HVAC system is nearly complete and windows were installed.

Then wiring weekend started.  Dad and Sis came to help with the rough wiring.  There was a ton of work to do and we got a tremendous amount completed.  Mom sent food to keep us energized.

Thanks for the help and support!!  It wouldn't have been possible without you.

Well, check out the photos:

Plumbing Day 2

The plumbers and the GC were here this morning.  The GC brought the valves required for the shower that we designed.

I went over it with them to make sure we were all on the same page after the confusion yesterday.  The plan changed slightly from what we designed, but it performs the same function.  Instead of having two controls on each wall, for a total of 4 functions, there are 3 controls on one wall and one on the other.

To summarize, we have one standard shower head, a rain head, a removable, handheld shower head, and 3 body sprays, which can all be controlled individually.

I went over the elevations that we wanted the body sprays with the plumber.  He understood, and I'm really glad I made these drawing otherwise who knows what we would have received.  I took some measurements and everything looked good.

They did the shower piping in copper since it is more rigid and it needs to connect to the brass valves.

They ran the gas for the water heater and the laundry.  They ran it outside to connect near the meter.  I am not sure why they did that.  They added all the joints in the PEX and put up nail plates around there piping where necessary.

The tankless water heater I ordered arrived today at about 1PM, but they didn't get to it today.  No vents got installed and the drain pipe hasn't broken through into the existing basement yet.

When I left there were 4 plumbers plus the GC here, so I was kind of surprised they didn't finish.  I think they must have left early, because I'm not a plumber, and I think I could have gotten that much done in a day.

The windows arrived today!  Unfortunately they are still all in boxes :(

The HVAC guy is coming tomorrow, and my electrical crew will be here this weekend!

Not sure what happened, but it feels like another underwhelming week.  It felt like we were all set up to be doing work in the addition and outside, simultaneously and really kick this thing, but we never seem to be able to maintain any momentum.

Outside work that still needs to be done: pouring the remaining footings (still not done, but they have only been dug for a week now), ripping out the bad rim joist, installing the new rim joist, flashing the new rim joist, pouring the patio, installing the windows, siding, gutters, dry well, finishing the framing in the addition that is still wrong.

It just seems like there is way too much stuff to be done to have days where nothing gets done, but I'm not a GC.

I hope the HVAC guy can get his ductwork run in the addition tomorrow so that we can avoid it with the electrical wiring.  It seems like a lot of work for one day though.

I went to Lowe's to look at Fan / Light Combo controls with remotes.  I think the Honeywell one, pictured below, (#40015) will work for us.  The light wattage limit is 300W, so we might need to use LEDs, but I'm thinking that the wall switch will go by the door into the room.  The remote will remain at the bed so that the fan and lights can be controlled from both locations.

I want to run the light switch leg from the switch to the fan and then back to the other lights in the bedroom, and then also run a separate switch leg from the lights back to the switch, in case the remote can't handle all the lights in the room. This way we could always add a separate switch for the other lights later, if necessary, but I think we will be OK.
