Don't blink or you might miss this build. We went from no action to full fledged crazy town overnight.
I counted ten guys working today. We got off to a slow start with some rain showers and forecast rain, but, the rain really held off long enough for them to finish up as much as they could.
Unfortunately the GC skimped on the plywood or they could have completely finished the sheathing.
They fixed the window above the vanity as best they could. It still needs to be shrunk a little bit, but the top is at a better elevation. We made the decision on the fly to switch to a smaller window (12" as opposed to 18") and make it in-operable. This will allow it to fit better up closer to the ceiling (with just enough space for trim) and allow us to get rid of the post that was going to be in between the two windows.
They still haven't framed the closet door that we want, but since it is on the interior it is not as big of an issue.
They extended some vents through the new roof while applying the sheathing. The added a wall that we didn't want, but that can be removed as well. We eliminated this wall in the closet to allow for a full wall of shelves with our latest closet layout. They will have to remove this.
They cathedraled the screened in porch, which I think is going to be really nice.
The plan that I got from the contractor is that the mason is supposed to be here on Monday to finish the patio wall, and the roof is being replaced on Tuesday.
He suggested going to a Timberline roof shingle which is an added cost, but it is the shingle that looks 3D. We will have to consider it, but it probably would look pretty nice since our roof is quite visible.
The contractor also suggested doing a retaining wall behind the retaining wall that we are installing so that we can keep a flat area. This is something we were already thinking about since it is nice to have that flat area. It would make a great bocce court.
It is really starting to take shape, very quickly which is great, but I would also like to be a little more involved in the decision making since we aren't getting an opportunity to weigh in until it is the last minute. If we hadn't noticed the framing issues that existed, who knows what we would have ended up with?
We may be ready to do electrical work next weekend or Memorial Day Weekend.
In other news, one of the carpenters is from Ecuador. That makes two people that I met this week from Ecuador! He suggested visiting the Galapagos Islands, even though he has never been there.
Now that you are tired of reading, here are some photos from today.
